Smoked Tanned Hide #4 (longhaired patchwork)
Sheepskin rug/hide tanned via using the smoke method. This hide took about 25-30 hours to process from fleshing, washing, brushing, stretching, and smoking the leather. Each piece is one of a kind and numbered and processed by me!
This particular piece went through some distressing so it lost some hair. I patched the areas that lost hair with a cheeto colored shearling that I had left over from an old bag I use to offer.
The leather side may have some imperfections, blemishes, or small holes but this does not take away from the look and function of the rug.
Sheepskin is a byproduct of the meat industry. Although this piece was thoroughly washed and cleaned, you may still find seeds or dried leaves here and there as the hair is thick. This sheep has lived a colorful life and its hair contain some rich story telling of its life it lived. Since this is smoke tanned, it does smell of smoke. The smell will subside overtime by airing it outside.
